Public Service Experience

PUBLIC SERVICE & CIVIC LEADER

 Jack Nichols has been licensed as an attorney since August 1977. But, he has also been a public servant. 


From 1988 to 1988, he was appointed by Lt. Governor Bob Jordan to the newly created Administrative Rules Review Commission and he also served as the first Vice-Chair of the Rules Review Commission. 

From 1990 to 1994, he served after he was elected as a Wake County Commissioner and he was elected Vice Chair of the Board. 


In 2022, he was appointed as a Wake House member to complete the term of Grier Martin. He is one of ten listed in Best Lawyers in America for North Carolina in Administrative Law from 2003 to the present. 

Jack has also been a leader in the civic and nonprofit community. He has served on numerous nonprofit Boards, including the Wake Med Board of Directors, the Women’s Center, and he has also started several nonprofits. 


  • He was the co-founder of Planned Parenthood of Raleigh in 1988, which grew to become Planned Parenthood of the South Atlantic. 


While Wake Commissioner, he started Wake County Smart Start in 1993 and it continues to provide child day care services to children, parents, and day care centers. He now serves as their Legal Counsel.
